The Armin Landeck Project

Welcome to The Landeck Project, an initiative dedicated to exhibiting and celebrating the remarkable works of Armin Landeck. As one of the 20th century’s most influential printmakers, Landeck’s intricate etchings and engravings remain timeless masterpieces. Our mission is to document, collect, and promote his works to ensure his legacy continues to inspire future generations of artists, collectors, and admirers.

Our Goals

While the primary goal of the Project is the celebration of Mr. Landeck’s work, there are three important facets of the Landeck Project which will contribute to the whole.

=

The Online Cataloge

At the heart of the Landeck Project is creation of a definitive online catalog of his prints, something which sadly does not currently exist. Our online catalog will feature imagery and vital stats for all 160+ works in Mr. Landeck’s printmaking career, as well as in-depth analysis on themes and technique.

=

Building a Comprehensive Print Collection

Our long-term goal is to acquire one of every print Mr. Landeck created. And while it’s likely impossible to achieve such a goal, we are nonetheless dedicated to creating a centralized resource for exhibitions, education, and research. Currently, we own over 30 Armin Landeck prints.

Exhibition, Education & Outreach

While many museums include Landeck prints in their collections, nearly 100% of those prints are NOT on display. Beyond conserving the works, one has to ask how this really helps contemporary art fans view and appreciate Mr. Landeck’s work. The Landeck Project is creating a collection which is AVAILABLE, in whole or part, free of charge, to any museum or gallery who wishes to exhibit these pieces.

Through our online catalog, collection and future exhibitions, the Landeck Project aims to educate the public about Mr. Landeck’s techniques, themes, and contributions to the American Printmaking.

Why Armin Landeck?

The world does not need any help learning about Picasso or Dali, or perhaps even Edward Hopper or Martin Lewis. But somehow, Armin Landeck is lesser known than the quality of printmaking would indicate.

And while he is obviously very well known in the gallery/auction world, his name is hardly known beyond the insular world of print collecting… Certainly not when compared to his friends Edward Hopper and Martin Lewis.

Beyond the deserving nature of his stature, Mr. Landeck’s work is important in and of itself. His prints stand at the crossroads of precision and creativity. Known for his extraordinary control of the drypoint technique, Mr. Landeck’s prints capture the uneasy spirit of urban landscapes with a striking interplay of light, shadow, and geometry. His architectural studies, particularly those depicting New York City, reflect an unmatched ability to find beauty in structural forms. Yet his art transcends mere technical skill—it evokes mood, narrative, and timelessness.

As one of the key figures bridging the American Etching Revival and modern printmaking, Landeck’s contributions deserve deeper recognition. The Armin Landeck Project seeks to bring his work into focus for a wider audience.
